Press Release “Love is a Battlefield”

During Haute Couture Fashion Week 2026 in Paris, artist Nancy Faas presented her art performance for the second time. This year, the new thematic universe Love is a Battlefield took center stage, a layered artistic concept in which chess, mythology, transformation, and self-expression converge.

At Atelier Néerlandais, the leading meeting place for Dutch artists, designers and performers in Paris, Faas presented a multidisciplinary performance to an international audience from the worlds of art, fashion and media. The presentation formed a total experience in which visual art, couture, jewelry, dance and theatre merged into one narrative composition.

Artistic Collaboration with the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts Amsterdam

The performance was developed in close collaboration with the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts Amsterdam. Together, Nancy Faas, choreographers and dancers from the institute created the performance from concept to execution.

Nancy Faas

“When different art forms come together, a story emerges that you do not only see, but feel. I have great admiration for Lucia Marthas and her institute. They give young performers the space to fully express themselves and the right to be who they want to be. Authenticity is of inestimable value.”

Lucia Marthas

“When we were asked by Nancy to present an art performance during Paris Fashion Week, we did not have to hesitate for a single moment. Art and culture are essential for our students. The theme of this show, self-love as a conscious choice, aligns seamlessly with that.”

The Art Performance

The approximately twenty-minute performance deliberately departed from the traditional catwalk format. Instead of a linear fashion show, the audience experienced a theatrical and cinematic composition in which dance, performance and visual symbolism merged.

Set to music including Wuthering Heights, Somebody’s Watching Me, and Losing It, symbolic elements such as birdcages with white doves, mirrors, masks, playing cards, a battleship, and sculptural objects expressed themes of freedom, control, identity, seduction, and inner transformation.

Nancy Faas

“Self-love is not surrender; it is a conscious choice. To take yourself seriously. To claim space. To remain true to who you are. The battlefield is not outside you, but within, where doubt and strength collide. Each step is a move chosen with clarity. Rule yourself.”

With Love is a Battlefield, Faas emphasizes that true freedom arises when one is allowed to be oneself, without masks, without adaptation and without hesitation.

New Works and Collections

During the show, extensive new work was presented within the thematic universe Love is a Battlefield. A limited-edition series of sculptural bronze chess pieces, released in an edition of 69, formed the strategic core of the collection. The chess game functions as a metaphor for inner strategy, autonomy and strength. Monumental bronze Muses and sculptural table pieces lined the runway as living anchors of the artistic universe. A new couture line featuring handmade pieces crafted from high quality fabrics and original prints was introduced, including the Muse print kimono. The gold plated bronze Sculptures to Wear were expanded with the Paris collection and The Year of the Horse, where symbolism and sculptural form converge. The new Heart and Crown collection was presented, a refined jewelry line in silver and gold in which the heart and the crown symbolize autonomy, dignity and inner authority. The Muse Collection Jewels forms a broad collection of symbolic jewelry inspired by the Muses, translating Faas’ sculptural universe into an accessible yet artistically high-quality jewelry collection. New within the oeuvre is the limited-edition perfume pendant L’Ode, a sculptural jewel in which art and fragrance unite. The pendant contains a signature scent developed by Nancy Faas and is designed as a wearable art object.

Television Broadcast

The performance concluded with a final walk by Nancy Faas together with presenter Carolien ter Linden, during which the winner of the Nancy Faas challenge within the program Wishing on a Star was announced. The broadcasts will take place on 22 and 29 March at 16.00 on RTL 4 and will subsequently remain available on Videoland for one year.

Positioning

With Love is a Battlefield, Nancy Faas confirms her position as an artist who unites sculpture, performance, couture, and wearable sculpture within one coherent artistic universe centered on mythology, transformation, and strength.
