Pronkstukken & Lustobjecten
For her latest series of bronzes, which is on display during Masterly the Hague, Nancy Faas has drawn inspiration from the still lifes of the Golden Age. Her muse Christoffel Jacobsz van der Laemen (1607-c.1651) and his work the prodigal son prompted her to produce this series. Christoffel Jacobsz van der Laemen was a Flemish painter who specialised in genre works. His favourite themes were scenes primarily about the pleasures of life, but the story of the prodigal son also recurs several times in his work. Opulence, abundance, flaunting, lust, temptation, life, transience and death; they are themes for every era. Nancy’s spectacular bronzes tell stories and strike a chord.
